Tasikmalaya, West Java, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono sounded Angklung traditional bamboo music instrument to mark the opening of the 14th Islamic Unity (Persis) conference here on Sturday.
The opening ceremony of Persis conference, attended by about 10 thousand people, was held at Aisyah mosque at West Java's town of Tasikmalaya.
"I hereby declare this Islamic Unity conference and its autonomy officially open," President Yudhoyono said, and then sounded the West Java's Angklung traditional music instrument which has been made available at the main stage.
After the head of state sounded the Angklung, other music players and choir of teachers from various schools in Tasikmalaya followed the president by sounding theirs in unison.
Besides opening the conference, President Yudhoyono also dedicated Aisyah mosque which was built by a chicken egg businessman in Tasikmalaya.
President Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono in the company of several cabinet ministers among others Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono, Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali, and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam arrived in Tasikmalaya at 10 on Saturday morning.
After taking a rest for a while the president and the first lady in the company of West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan headed to Aisyah mosque complex to open the conference.
The Persis conference, conducted at three Islamic boarding schools in Tasikmalaya and Garut will last until September 27, 2010. ***3***
